It's the end of the world.....

So today is D day. Apparently. And not really. Had this song stuck in my head today and it's also my ultimate karaoke song. I have yet to master all of the lyrics but when I do, I shall debut my skills at a local karaoke bar.

Wednesday Playlist: for your ears

It's the last week of work and I have some, what I like to refer to as, "home affairs work". This involves all things admin related, like sorting out files, editing lists, etc. Not my favorite thing to do, but it needs to be done. Here is the tunage that is accompanying me.

Bloc Party - Octopus

Ben Howard - Call Me Maybe (cover)

Queen - Under Pressure

And as always these three songs have been on repeat and I think I have probably listened to each of them about 20 times.

It's a kind of magic...

Dynamo : magician wizard

Have you heard of Dynamo? He has an awe some show called Magician Impossible on Discovery. You have to see it to believe it. Usually when you watch the likes of Criss Angel or David Blaine, you can figure out the trick, but with Dynamo it is impossible.

Watch and be amazed....

He also does things like levitate, walk down buildings and make it impossible for you to pick him up. Using the YouTube machine, I found this video that reveals his Matrix trick.

The trick revealed....

I still think he is awesome though and a cut above the rest. He also has a book out, but when I discovered it all of them were sold out. Can't wait to read it.

"Illusion Michael, a trick is something a whore does for money" - G.O.B on Arrested Development

ps: Thanks to my friend who coined the term wizard in relation to Dynamo. So apt.

Chillax yo

So this weekend has been a long one. Oh I how I love South Africa and the awesome rule that if a public holiday falls on a Sunday, we get the Monday off. I also like the fact that we don't have to make up for a day off.

Look what I made: a tablet cover

So yesterday my sister's boyfriend's tablet cover broke. I have been wanting to craft one of these bad boys for a while, but never had a tablet of my own to do so. The cover is kind of girly, as that is the only material I had lying around. I will make a more manly one over the holidays.

Watch this: The Hobbit

So last week while I was perusing the Twittersphere, I came across an awesome competition. All I had to do was retweet and I could stand a chance to win two tickets to watch The Hobbit, courtesy of NuMetro. Well I won (so happy) and it was only once I received the invite that I actually realized how awesome the prize was.

It was held at Monte Casino and upon arrival we got awesome green Hobbit 3D glasses and a goodie bag. The goodie bag consisted of the Lord of the Rings trilogy DVD, which I am so excited about because this is what I will be doing on my day off. They gave us our wristbands and we headed up to the VIP area.

We were greeted by some super friendly people who had amazing drinks on offer, including some delicious organic wine. My friend and I were running late and were upset that we had not had a chance to eat some dinner before, but there was no need. Canapes translated into bowls of the best Thai curry ever, delicious finger snacks, a cup cake tower, cheese board and best of all the beef. Who's got the beef? They did.

After gorging ourselves on scrumptious treats, we headed to the cinema and were treated to even more food: popcorn and juice. Once seated comfortably, I learned that this premier was a world first. You see Peter Jackson had filmed The Hobbit in High Frame Rate (HFR) in 3D. What this means is that you see more images per second. Instead of the industry standard which is 24, you see 48 pictures per second. And it is amazing.

My review

I give The Hobbit: an unexpected journey 5 out of 5 rings. Usually with long movies, you lose interest and keep on checking the time, but with The Hobbit I was glued to the screen. The scenes are beautifully shot and the characters are interesting. You get really involved in the story line and the fight scenes are some of the best I have ever seen. There were even times when I would put up my hand to cover my face, it looked that real. I can't wait for the sequels.

A special thanks to NuMetro for this awesome prize. What an awesome evening.

And finally...

Holiday Tips

I've just returned from an awesome long weekend in Cape Town. I got to party on a house boat, see some of my favorite people and worked on my suntan (read sunburn). And when I got back I received a very cool early Christmas present. The holiday season is definitely among us. Here are some holiday tips. You are welcome.

1. How much to drink at the office Christmas party

Here's a handy chart to let you know how much to drink at the office Christmas party. It might be one night of fun, but remember you have to work with these people for the next year. Also remember to switch off your phone, no one likes a drunk dialer.

2. Wear sunscreen

Sun burn might be funny when it happens to other people, but not so much when it happens to you.

It's Friday. Watch this funny video.

I always laugh when people fall. I just find it super hilarious. And that is why I also love watching Epic Fails. Laugh away.

3 Advent Calendars that you can make

So the other day my buddy bought me my very own Advent Calendar. You would think that by now I would be over such things, but it makes my day awesome. Yesterday I almost forgot to eat my chocolate behind door number 3, but just before bed, I remembered. Luckily.

Here are some cool advent calendars that you can make.

1. Make a Christmas City

Taken from Mr Printables.

2. Extra Baggage Advent Calendar

Make your very own in this easy to follow tutorial from Lovely Things.  What I like mod about this is that the little gifts are not limited to chocolates, heck you could put entire boxes of chocolates in these bad boys.

3. Advent Calendar turned Christmas Tree Ornament

How cool are these from MiniEco? And best of all after carefully removing your gift, you could string these back together and add them to your Christmas Tree.

A little bit about the History of the Advent Calendar (in easy to read point form)

  • The first printed Advent Calendar, although without windows to open, was published in 1908.
  • At the beginning of the 20th Lang produced the first Advent Calendars with little doors to open.
  • World War II terminated the success of this German tradition.
  • The cardboard was rationed and it was forbidden to produce Calendars with pictures.
  • The first printed speciems after the war were printed by Richard Sellmer in 1946.

Fro Yo For Your Face

This weekend my buddy and I decided that we would like some frozen yoghurt and Wakaberry came highly recommended. We went to the one in Lonehill and were not disappointed. I was surprised at how large the shop was, but once we were inside I understood why. You get to serve yourself and there are not just a few flavors there are over ten!

The interactive fro yo experience is awesome, but I suspect many parents were not too happy when their little bundles of joy decided that they wanted a mountain of frozen yoghurt. The bowls are all the same size, but I think that you could easily fit in about half a kilo of fro yo delicisouness. I decided to have a taste of every flavor, and began adding swirls of Wakaberry to my tub. My buddy decided that vanilla and a smidgeon of banana would suffice.

After this excitement you get to choose your toppings. There is everything you could ever want for a topping. From oreos, to brownies, gummy worms and even fruit. They have it all. I stuck with my previous game plan and added a tiny bit of everything. Well almost everything. We placed our tubs on the scale and paid. We decided to sit down and enjoy our treats.

It was really funny to watch how after the kids had filled their tubs to the brim with fro yo, how they then tried to add some toppings. The parents would be giving them their options and they would ask for each one. The best flavor by far was peanut butter!  I can't wait for the next time I have an excuse to eat  some of this again.
