DIY: A Place for Pretty, Shiny Things

Ice Cream, You Scream, We All Scream For Ice Cream

So this weekend we had some people over for dinner and I decided to make chocolate mousse using the above recipe, the thing is that it did not set. Then someone suggested that instead of throwing it away, I should freeze it and make ice cream. And that is what I did and wowzers! It has made the best ice cream ever and you don't even have to stir it every few hours. It is super rich and creamy, but hey that is how ice cream should be.

What is this? It is fried ice cream.
In other ice cream related news, over the weekend we went out to Kung Fu Kitchen and I saw that they had frozen ice cream. I had to try it. It was terrible, doughy on the outside and ice cream in the middle. Been there, done that, never again.

Hunger Games = Hunger Lames

I first heard about The Hunger Games when I was still in Taiwan. They had the books everywhere and every time I read about them, I was not interested at all. Then I saw an interview on Ellen with one of the leading actresses and thought that it would be awesome to get lost in the books and enjoy some "literary meth". I rushed over to the bookstore and thought of buying the trilogy, but decided to only buy the first. Thank goodness.

It took me a week to slog through this book and with each chapter I just wanted it to end. The plot felt like it had a lot of holes, and the justifications for accepting The Hunger Games and not revolting against them, seemed silly.

Despite my feelings toward the first book, I still really wanted to see the movie. So off I went and I just couldn't get into it. Half way through I apologized to my friends for choosing such a bad movie. Then the exciting part came, the actual Hunger Games and it got better.

I just don't get the hype and keep on wondering what I am missing?

Meanwhile on the Twittersphere....

Grand Designs Live

So this weekend we went to Grand Designs Live at the Coca Cola Dome in Northgate. I think I am making a habit of visiting expos, they are a pretty cool way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Here are some highlights:

They had some awesome products on display! Some of those kitchens are to die for, but I liked the novelty items more, like the awesome lime green appliance collection, wall stickers and of course the crafts. The garden was pretty cool, but I feel for the people who have to lug out all of the soil.

The furniture was amazing and interesting. I really like the anything goes chair, the meant to look like wood chair as well as the outside chair. They had a graffiti wall and I of course had to draw a sk8er g8er.

And finally, the food. This year they had a gourmet food section which was amazing. We bought a chocolate cupcake and a mini cake. There was so much stuff to choose from and the best part was all the tasters. I also bought the most divine pesto.

A fun day out!
